Saints
too good for Fitzroy in Intra-Club clash ! (Thu 27th Feb
2003, fitzroyreds.com.au) Last
night saw the unofficial kick off to the Reds campaign for 2003.
Players materialised out of the woodwork, chomping at the bit for
some footy. Intra-club matches can best be analogised as "dancing
with your sister" and usually provide some interesting highlights
and insights, this match was no exception. With friends in low places,
Burgs was able to procure the use of some St kilda jumpers that
closely resembled the type of muscle top made popular by Craig McLachlan
during his stint on Home and Away, or perhaps even Check 1-2. So
the scene was set: Fitzroy vs St kilda.
New
Under 19's team for the Reds (Mon
13 Jan 2003, fitzroyreds.com.au/latestnews) After the successful
implementation of a third senior team in 2002, the Fitzroy Reds
are setting their sights on introducing an U19s team for the coming
season. The new team will assist in forming a bridge between the
Fitzroy Junior Football Club and the senior club. Fitzroy Reds President,
Benjy Lee is extremely pleased that "kids from the City of
Yarra will now be able play footy in the famous Fitzroy jumper,
on the equally famous Brunswick Street Oval, from U10s right through
to the senior ranks".
Selwood
always a Lion at heart (Fri
29 November 2002, lions.com.au)
New recruit Troy Selwood was a Brisbane Lion
at heart long before he was drafted at No.19 by the club last weekend,
despite growing up in faraway Bendigo. He
was fortunate enough to play on the MCG on the same day as the Lions
historic 2001 win over Essendon, and then celebrate in the stands
later.
Vale:
Titch Edwards (Thu 17 October 2002,
lions.com.au)
Fitzroy life member, Team of Our Century selector and former Queensland
coach Arthur Titch Edwards has died, aged 87.
Fitzroy
memorabilia pours back (Mon 7 October
2002, lions.com.au) A
treasure trove of former Fitzroy memorabilia has been returned to
the Brisbane Lions following a concerted recovery effort by the
clubs Melbourne office and the police. Many valuable items
were taken by supporters when the club merged with the Brisbane
Bears.
Brunswick
Street lives on (Sun 29 September
2002, lions.com.au) The spiritual home of the Brisbane Lions
and old Fitzroy in Melbourne, Brunswick Street Oval, came to life
for the second time in 12 months this morning. While the Fitzroy
Reds now call the historic ground in the local amateur competition
home, Brunswick Street has not witnessed such fervor since the Lions
visited after their last premiership victory.
